Nora stepped outside into the cold to see Harry jogging back along to his cabin. “Hey you!” she shouted and called him over.
“Yes?” he answered once he'd reached her.
“You run?” she asked.
“Yeah every morning. It’s the best time of the day, it’s peaceful.”
Nora nodded eagerly, “I agree. I’m one hundred per cent an early bird.”
They went their separate ways and Harry walked back into his cabin. She’s so similar to me, never have I clicked with another person like this before, he thought. As he pulled on a pair of jodphurs he continued to think about her. She was intelligent, had morals and from their conversations on the trail ride she was a huge feminist like himself. He liked her, not in a romantic way, or at least that’s what he thought. He rolled his eyes and shoved his boots on. He was over-thinking, as usual.
Once in the barn he slipped Harley’s bridle on and tied him up to groom. He stood in the ties with a bridle and without he wouldn’t stand still and would keep fidgeting. Swiftly, Harry snatched a brush from is grooming bag and began to flick it across Harley’s back. He heard the sound of hooves on gravel nearby and suddenly a blond-haired woman and a bay horse came racing past. “Hi.” He stammered. The woman looked at him and continued to lead the bay into the stable. Wow she’s friendly, he thought. She continued to work on the horse, untacking him and grooming him and Harry peered up the stable block to get a better glimpse of her. The woman was named Natalia, another staff member at Phoenix but she wasn’t too friendly though and kept herself to herself. Suddenly, she spotted him in the corridor and squinted at him. “Oh hi, sorry. I’m Harry.”
She continued to work on the horse, brushing quickly through his mane. “I’m new here…” he continued and the woman stared at him. “Right.” She muttered and continued on the bay horse, Ryker. Harry sighed and walked back over to Harley.
Later on he met up with Nora, they schooled together in the indoor arena. “So, what’s with the blond girl and her attitude?” he asked.
“Oh Natalia? That’s just how she is. She’s different once she gets to know you, for now all you’ll get is a death stare and if you’re lucky she might say hi.”
Harry laughed, “I got the stare. She’s not as lovely as you.”
Nora blushed and ran her hand through Gunner’s mane, “Right I better get going. The rest of the horses need bringing in.” And with that, she dismounted and walked Gunner back to the stables.
