Training and foals! Oh my!
It is getting colder outside. We have white frosted fields early in the morning and cold winds in the day. But the foals are growing and love their lives!
Foals are two weeks old and I am finally able to ride Sue again. since last week I have all three mares back into luneging to get them moving. One foal works with us, the other not, and then there is Sugar!
He already was the opinion he needed to jump over the lunge between me and Sue while first few training sessions and now I was able to take him with me to the trail parcours. And look what he is doing! I really wanted to get Sue walking though the tube but I couldnt! Sugar blocked them the whole time and I wasnt able to push him aways from there. He scratched his back and belly between them, he chewed on the soft tubes, he pushed them around so they wobbled back and forth. I really love this foal! He is so curious and independent to test out new stuff as long as his mother ic close by and I really wanna see him all grown up under saddle in a few years, that is going to be fun!
Well, I wasnt able to properly train Trail with Sue, so I took her over to the other riding arena just to get her a good workout and galopp so she can get back into shape.
"If I just knew what that colt was up to! Probably no good!"
Another thing I have to tell you is about Smarty and Smokey. As they are in that Rescue Associations Program they now decided that both mares have to be sterilized to prevent further "problems". And they also made their point clear that both mares will have to leave my ranch after the foals are succesfully weaned. They will be living on a horse sanctuary until their lives end. I talked to them that it would be a waste of potential as both mares are eager to work and compete, I also told them I would not breed them ever again as I did not intend to in the first place, but I had no chance. So you guys know. In about 8 to 9 months latest its planned that the Twinsies will leave my ranch and I have no chance to get them back. It hurts so much to not have them with me anymore, I saw them growing up all 4 years of their lifes, and now they are taken from me. At least I am happy that the foals are not in the rescue program as its not possible to register foals of foals (Smarty and Smokey are only registered because their mother Gaia was, this will not happen to my two foals). One of the girls is promised to Arkwery still and Smartstar She will luckyly stay with me, I have at least one memory of my girls here. sigh
Also this morning we got someone back! DeeDee is with us again! The new owners really tried to work with her over the last month, but it seems like she is a pretty hard rock. For now only Mathew has ridden her, not even I sat on her back because I focussed on the mares and their foals. We had tried that Mat works with DeeDee there, he was able to ride her, but as soon as someone else sat on her back she bucked, kicked and went crazy. We really wanted to leave her there as we have much to do, but we had to decide for her best and now she is back with us! Mathew bought her back.
