ESRPG Quick Start: Overview
◊ Welcome to the ESRPG!
The ESRPG is an optional roleplaying game designed for Equus-Sims members who are looking for a sense of achievement and purpose. For those who join, your goal is simple: advance your character or horse through their chosen career track until they reach the top of their profession, unlocking new perks, abilities, and rewards for them along the way. You will win cool prizes, meet awesome people, and hopefully have fun developing your characters, horses, and establishments!
◊ Starting Out
There are three types of "assets" a player can own and register with the ESRPG: Characters, Horses, and Establishments. Before joining the ESRPG, you'll need to create at least one asset to register. Each asset will have its own unique career opportunities, which are listed below. These "Career Tracks" offer different ways for your assets to gain XP, hopefully giving you, the player, a unique experience with every asset you create.
|Player Assets || |
|Characters || Available Careers: Competitor, Educator, Breeder, Show Manager, Staff Member, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Professional |
Available Programs: Young Rider Program
|Horses || Available Careers: Athlete, Futurity |
Available Programs: Foal Program
|Establishments || Available Careers: Competitor, Breeding, Education Center, Business |
Available Programs: N/A
NOTE: You can have as many of each asset as you can manage, but we recommend starting with just a single character and their horse. The ESRPG is meant to be a slower game, and progression will require patience and dedication.
◊ Career Tracks and Programs
Before you register your first asset, you'll need to decide on a career that suits your character's interests as well as your own, as it will greatly impact how you play and participate in ESRPG events. All assets can have up to two careers at a time, and every career will present them with unique benefits and challenges that they'll have to overcome to reach level 10.

Not Ready to Commit?
If you're not ready to commit to a career track yet, you can register your character or horse in one of our ESRPG Programs. These programs are like mini careers that are designed for those who aren't really sure where they fit yet, or who want to play more passively.

Registering your characters, horses, and establishments is mandatory for earning XP in the ESRPG. There is no approval process, meaning any Equus-Sims member can join. The purpose of registration is to help keep us organized in maintaining an active leaderboard that displays the progress of our ESRPG players. However, registration does not affect your ability to join in ESRPG events - you can enter with any non-registered character, horse, or stable, but you will not earn XP for them.

◊ The Level System
The ESRPG level system is used to measure the progress of your character, horse, or establishment throughout their career. All career tracks have 10 levels, and each level has its own limitations, benefits, and requirements for completion, including unique tasks and of course, collecting enough XP!

◊ How to Earn XP
Once registered, every character, horse, or establishment will start at level 1 in their chosen Career Track(s) with 0 XP, regardless of their skill level. You will need to collect XP for your assets in order for them to climb the ladder and reach the top of their career. Gaining XP varies from asset to asset, and career to career. You can read all about this in the guide below!

◊ Completing or Transferring Careers
Once your asset reaches the top of their career, they may choose to remain at level 10 and eventually retire, OR use their level 10 perk to either transfer or add a second career. Additionally, they will be eligible to join the ranks of our Hall of Fame. While you may transfer careers at any time before level 10, doing so may be costly. Make sure you pick a career your can commit to from the beginning to avoid having to start from scratch!

◊ Gameplay Rules
The ESRPG is based on integrity, meaning that Equus-Sims does not police its players. However, we do have some rules in place to ensure fairness and fun for everyone who participates. Additional limitations are placed on your characters, horses, and establishments once they begin their career. You can find these listed along with their career track's limitations and benefits.
- Our forum conduct and posting rules apply to all ESRPG events and activities.
- In order to collect XP in these events, your character(s), horse(s), and/or establishments(s) must be registered with ESRPG.
- Do not enter events for which your character or horse is not qualified (must meet the level requirements).
- Do not host events unless your character is qualified to do so (show manager, trainer, instructor, healthcare).
- Do not host events above your tier (local, regional, etc)
- Do not give out more XP than you're permitted to give to event participants (when hosting).
- Be honest with your XP accumulation and healthcare deductions. You're only cheating yourself if you lie about how much you've earned or lost.
- Be honest with your judging in events.
- Do not abandon events you're hosting. Tell an administrator if you need someone else to take over your event.
- If using RP cash, you cannot enforce this gameplay on another player. Everything in the ESRPG is free and for everyone to participate in. Cash is for RP purposes only and is 100% optional.
- As always, be fair and kind to one another.
Note: All of the above rules are enforceable by the forum admin when necessary. You may be asked to make corrections until all criteria is met, particularly when hosting events.
Before joining the ESRPG, you might consider visiting our Partnerships thread and see who is looking for people to team up with. The ESRPG is challenging, and not everyone is character-driven. Some players prefer to focus on their horse's career, or the progress of their establishment, so you might just be the last piece of the puzzle they need!
◊ Joining a Guild
At a certain point in their career, your assets can join a Guild and then represent them in competitions. Each time your Guild is represented, it earns a point. At the end of the season, which is every three months, your Guild will deliver XP to you, with which you can bestow upon any one of your assets. The more points your Guild earned during a season, the more XP you will receive at the end!

The ESRPG has no real time frame. You play at your own pace. However, we define a "season" as 3 months. This gives structure to our own show system, as well as to players who prefer to play with some kind of timeframe in mind.
◊ Seasonal Check-Ins (Optional)
At the end of every season, we host a "Check-In" where ESRPG players have the option to submit up-to-date records for their assets. This Check-In is a means of helping players remain accountable for accurate bookkeeping by rewarding those who participate with XP. Players can bestow this rewarded XP upon any one of their assets.
◊ RP Cash (Optional)
There is no official ESRPG currency and the use of RP cash is 100% optional. You are permitted to use RP cash as payouts in shows, fees for various services or the purchasing of horses, vet bills, and other things of that nature. However, you are not permitted to "require" the use of RP cash, meaning you cannot enforce this gameplay on other players. It is intended only to provide additional realism to the ESRPG experience.
